Leave your resume in the Xerox machine.
The secretary will see it and hand it to the boss.
If you are a good employee, the manager will panic and give you a raise.
Since he will figure out you are looking for work elsewhere.

Well you can always ask and see what happens. But if the company is truly not doing well then I would expect much.

By the way I think people use the "Financial Crisis" too much to explain why they are not doing well. Good business and practice will always do well. The company I work for is doing very very well and we do IT Consulting service (sometime a luxury for a company as they should do it themselves). And I have a personal business selling software I write and last year was the best year and this year is already surpassing last). There are lots of businesses doing well and lots failing, but are they failing for external reasons or internal.

Anyway good luck, if the company can afford it (and want to keep good workers – you) then you should get a raise.

  • Is it rude to ask current salary and health insurance deductions from salary if I have been away for 2 years?

Is it rude to ask up front what the current salary of my old job is now if I have been away from it on military orders for 2 years?

It is set on a salary structure but I don’t have access to that any longer since I have been away.

I don’t want to be rude to ask up front but I have to know for budgeting purposes.

Nearly half of our senators are millionaires but it is a much smaller fraction in the House but I would bet that most of those who had a job in the private sector made more than they do now ($160,000) if you do not count the perks that congressmen have. That is not even in the top 1% of incomes.

  • What do you think would happen if baseball put in a salary cap next year?

What if, for whatever reason, Bud Selig put a salary cap on baseball next year? Do you think that it would dramatically change baseball? I hear all the time about how baseball needs a salary cap, so if it finally was put in place, what do you think would happen?

You people just don’t understand how Major League Baseball operates. The Commissioner does NOT have to authority to unilaterally put in a salary cap. Plus, if the owners tried, there would be a walkout by the Players Union.

    • Machinehead 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

Teams like the Yankees and Redsox would have to sell the farm to get under cap creating a free agent bonanza. After that we don’t know who would be good because caps tend to even everything up and potentially change the tide of every team. This doesn’t necesarily mean small market teams automatically become winners and big market teams become losers though. It simply sets them on an even plain. The Yankees could spiral, or they could sitll be good, depends on what the replacements do. Hell even the Pirates could be good if they make the right moves. It’d turn the entire leauge on it’s head. Anyone can be good, anyone can suck.

    • Kave Dast 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

The Yankees would still be the best team. Haters would just claim the Yankees cheated again. It would be no different than before.

    • White Sox 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

Big market teams would pretty much be screwed. The Yankees would be getting rid of much of their team.

The reason is because there would be so little time to make a decision. If a salary cap was put into baseball, there would be more time……..maybe a 5 year thing so teams could prep for it. It would certianly make baseball more even but a salary floor is needed more.

    • N C 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

I would severely anger 5 or 6 teams. Make 10-12 teams very happy and be indifferent to the rest. The Players Union would strike. And we would lose out on a year or more of baseball.

    • Sports 101 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

The Yankees will not be as good. And other teams will be able to compete.

    • Pride Power Pinstripes :) ♥ 4:14 pm on August 20, 2010 Permalink

It depends on what the salary cap was set at. If it was set at 150,000,000, then yes, the Red Sox would be just as screwed as the Yankees. If the salary cap was set at 200,000,000, then the Yankees could just get rid of someone like Lance Berkman and be under the limit. And then still have some money left over to replace him. (Berkman’s 2010 salary- $14,500,000, team salary- $206,333,389. 206,333,389-14,500,000=$191,833,389 total salary) I don’t think it would be as catastrophic as everyone thinks it would be, it just depends on what the cap was set at.

  • What kind of salary should you earn to be a dog breeder?

The average salary of a reputable dog breeder

      $0.00 >

    • Gene 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

As a long time dog breeder, I can tell you it takes a lot of time, money, and more time, and time…and time…you get the idea.
As a breeder, you need to be in it for the breed of the dog, plain and simple. If you don’t love the breed, and want to perfect the standards and improve the bloodlines you work with, then it isn’t for you.
In terms of money, it costs a lot, and you won’t necessarily make that mucht. I happen to have titled dogs that I don’t even advertise any more because of the high demand for their puppies. I’m lucky in that respect but it’s also taken a long time to do (as in years and years). And even with the high demand, I’m lucky if I make any money at all, certainly not close to enough to live on. But that’s not why you do it, you do it for the love of the breed and working with animals, and for me, it’s more than enough of it’s own reward.
Talk to some breeders, do the research…basically everything the "Husky Mom" said, they’re spot on…Good luck.

    • Ashley Say NO to breeding mutts! 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

The question is not "how much do you make from breeding dogs" it’s "how much should you make before you breed dogs".

It’s really not a question that has an answer.

There is no "If you make more then this amount $xxxxx, you can afford to breed dogs" rule anywhere.

We don’t know what your monthly bills are like, where you live, where your getting your foundation dogs from, how many you will have, travel costs, housing for the dogs, food, vet costs, etc.

Are you going to show or just breed?

You can’t just foster or rescue dogs instead?

    • Single Worker 1230 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

Most reputable breeders get $0. In fact most times they are running in the negative numbers. Most breeders of this caliber are passionate about the breed. They show and breed with little return. For most people this is an expensive hobby. If you want to make money in dogs, go into grooming, training, and/or boarding. If you like to show and have the ability, you can become a professional handler.

For the love of dogs, cairn terriers, & mini pins, PLEASE Do Not Become A Dog Breeder!

There are more than enough unwanted & homeless dogs as is!

Instead you should form a rescue or sanctuary specifically for these breeds.

You would be making a bigger difference in the world if you spent your time saving unwanted animals instead of creating them.

    • markmartin4life 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

Well I think that its good that you at least want to get registered with the AKC instead of just breeding out of your home. I don’t mean to be rude at all, but I don’t think you should be asking this on the internet. If you aren’t sure about how much it will cost to breed dogs then there must be many more things you don’t know about breeding. My advise would be to find a legitimate mentor, an experienced AKC breeder, to help you through the breeding process and they will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Also, in order to ensure that your potential puppies will be high quality, I would suggest that you show the dogs that you are interested in breeding. Confirmation events are really evaluations of the quality of puppies the dog will be able to produce based on their conformity to the breed standards.

Good luck, and remember, its not about the quantity of money you make, but the quality of puppies you produce.

    • Husky Mom 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

It would depend on many things. I will say now that dog breeding isn’t ideally an income earning career. It takes 300% of your time, envelopes your life and only just covers itself.

Firstly, pedigree dogs are much more valuable to sell as adults and puppies than cross breed or mongrols. The price will be a reflection of the dogs features matching the breed type, as well as general health and parentage. If you have a champion dog its puppies will be much more valuable. To be a champion you must have come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a regional show (which in the UK would entitle you to attend Crufts, the national show). From then on you can write your dog’s name with the affix ‘Ch’ for champion.

There are many costs associated with breeding that novices do not normally forsee. A big one is vets costs, as the chances that your Female Dog will begin to give birth in the middle of the night are very high, and calling out a vet will be at a larger cost than a day-time appointment.

Depending on breed specific health problems (for instance, deafness is a large problem with dalmatians), health tests may assure potential buyers, but make costs rise. Puppies may need some cosmetic surgery to fit with breed specifications, such as tail docking (this is now not part of any breed standards in the UK) and removal of the dew claw).

There may be post-birth problems too. We have had many problems with pyometra infection, which can be fatal.

Food is large cost. More than you would think. You can’t simply feed pups supermarket puppy food. Good growth in a puppy once it starts eating solids comes from staples such as tripe, mince, yogurt/cream etc (there are many many more types that breeders will give depending on preferences), all of which in meals 5-6 times a day for 8 weeks can cost an awful lot.

So to recap, and to emphasise the timely nature of it all, a timeline of initiating a breeding career:

      1. Research breeders, nationally, through attending regional and national dog shows – 3 months.
      2. Buy a dog/female dog and raise it – 4 months
      3. Begin training both you and the dog in ringcraft (showing) – 3 months to years and years.
      4. You may begin to mate at age 2, but it may take several years of attending regional shows in order to obtain a champion awarded dog/female dog.

We personally don’t make much profit at all. There is so much time invested, and supply costs, dental costs, vet costs which keep rising, and so on. I’m a believer in that you shouldn’t breed for the money but for the breed. It is perfecting the breeds standard guidelines, and loving that miriacle of birth. Most all of our money is reinvested in the dogs. Plus, we don’t kennel so we have toys, beds, pee pads, and recreation that we spend on our dogs. It is not a money make!

    • Emily 12:54 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink

Most breeders do it for the love of the breed, and don’t make much of a profit. You figure 1 litter a year of 7 pups. 800 dollars per dog = 5,600.
That’s less than my moms monthly salary. And that doesn’t even include vet bills, health screenings, etc.

That is easy. How much do you need to live comfortably and able to pay rent, food, insurance, gas for car, repairs etc…
If you need $600 a week, then divid that by 40 / hr. a week. It gives you $15 an hour which is more than reasonable. If you are experienced, that can easily jump to $25 – 40 dollars an hour.

    • USartboy 10:12 am on August 16, 2010 Permalink

How much do you need to live on? Figure up your cost of living for a year (rent/utilities/gas money/insurance/food/clothes/savings/ entertainment etc.) then add on another 15-20%. Then compare that number to the average salary on a place like this http://www.simplyhired.com/a/salary/search/q-graphic+designer/l-secaucus%2C+NJ

If your close to that, round up. If you’re way over, see what you can live without or look for a different job.
