I’m thinking about getting into the paralegal career but I’ve heard that the job market is really bad right now due to the recession. But is the paralegal field actually doing worse than other fields?

Now is not the time to make a transition into the legal field. Law firms are hurting for money. Employees and attorneys are being laid off.

And besides, it will take you at a minimum three years to even qualify for a paralegal position. And by then, who knows where our economy will be…

Paralegal salaries can vary widely, from less than $30,000 to more than $60,000 a year. Where an individual paralegal lies within this range depends on his or her experience, level of education, and reputation. The median annual income for all paralegals is around $41,000.

Earnings can also vary depending on the place of employment. For example, a large law firm will often pay more than a smaller firm. Paralegals working in major urban centers are also likely to earn more than paralegals working in small towns.

Working longer hours can lead to increased earnings. In some cases, law firms require weekend and evening work. In these types of situations, paralegals may be rewarded with bonuses or additional time off.

Full-time paralegals generally receive benefits in addition to a salary. These benefits often include health insurance, paid sick days and vacation, and possibly a retirement plan.

Warning! Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!!! This is NOT a good field to invest in. Many reasons – main reason: We simply have WAY TOO MANY legal support professionals for the job market/economy. Even IF you finish your studies, you probably won’t be able to find a job when you are done.

But the law schools won’t tell you this – law students are easy money for them. And since we have WAY TOO MANY law schools also right now, they are fighting for law students.

The job market in the field of Law is so bad right now that there are many Attorneys working as court support staff, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Court Reporters, etc. < this would be your competition.

Suggestion: Look into the field of Healthcare <<< LOTS of jobs there! and scholarships!

    Good luck.
