I am married with only my spouse as a dependent. I am retired military and my spouse works. I have a job earning 40K for 2007 and had only 4k deducted from my salary for federal taxes. Should I adjust my W-4 for 2009 to have more taxes so that I won’t owe so much at the end of the year?

Without knowing what your spouse earns, and how much your military pension is, and how much is withheld from each of those for federal income tax. there’s no way to even guess. Post again with that info, or add that info to this question as additional info, and someone can take a shot at it.

It depends on how much your spouse is having withheld. You don’t want to increase the amount from your taxes and then have too much withheld. Use the IRS withholding calculator in order to determine the proper amount of exemptions each of you should claim on your W-9.
